rio tocantin bristlenose juveniles

Post by Guest on 19/5/2012, 22:04

ok i have a group of 5 or 6 rio tocantin bristlenose plecs for sale
these are young fish which are not yet sexable but there are 2 definite body shapes which leads me to believe that the group contains both genders and although obviously I cannot guarantee this I have no reason to doubt it
these fish are various sizes from an inch and a quarter to about an inch and three quarters and are feeding well on courgette
I bought them approx 3 months ago and they seem to be slow growing
only for sale due to a change in direction (I can't keep everything and my lda072's are more of a priority at the moment)
not often found for sale but here they are selling as a group only not individually as this would not achieve the desired result £40 or best offer to take them

hope these photos help you

apart from the super red trio obviously! any of the others that YOU catch you can take free with the tocantins!

reduced for this week to £30
that has to be a bargain at £5 per fish plus any albinos/golds that you manage to catch!
that is if you can catch bristlenoses!
the only b/n's in the tank that you can't take are the lda072's
in theory another half dozen or so youngsters in there
come on fill your boots folks!

simply put rich the difference is in the markings
the rio tocantins tend to have white marks on the tail fins mate and they aren't so common as the browns
however they do breed in the same way and the care is identical to common browns as they are ancistrus
if you need to know more about these i think that our resident L-number and plec specialist really must be chris as in chriscarnivorous as he actually researches the plecs he comes into contact with and knows his stuff well enough to explain the differences really well

Very nice comments ian but im not that clued up yet matey,
Tbh i dont knbow alot about ancistrus rio tocantins apart from they rnt too common and look abit more interesting but never seen one in real life lol I think if i remember rightly they dont grow as big as a brown bristlenose but not 100% sure. I do know brown bn grow upto 6" and have seen how big they can grow!

Rio tocantins is a river in brazil. Home to alot of unique fish like Geophagus Altifrons and Panaque cf. armbrusteri`tocantins` one of the most popular amazon biotopes for hobbyists.

heres a link that might help you

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=1934

Anyway Not all ancistrus breed the same as this is something i have looked into, if they all bred the same there would be L182 white seam starlight bn everywhere instead of just your plain old bn.

Basically the differance is they are 2 different types of fish that is the differance lol

due to the assasination of one of these poor plecs by an LDA 072 there are only 4 left now and can go for £15 just to find a good home for them
the 72 male seems to ignore them for a whil then go all territorial and knock hell out of the first thing he sees hence his murderous tendencies
