Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
Hi just thought id make a topic on breeding our apisto hongsloi',
We have already came close and me-shell says they had eggs but the female must of ate them because they where distubed,
so we moved them into there own tank whith some oak leafs what they seemed to love, but unfortunately i think the tank was a little small and cold for them to breed again although the male looked up for it flirting dancing ect.
Anyway today i put them bk in the 200L and as im looking the female has got her yellow black breeding colours on and the male has gone brighter than iv ever seen yellow blue and orange dancing shimmying showing the rams whos the boss trying to impress the female and shes buying it.......
Pics and updates to follow!!!

apisto trifasciata give them chance, the male will colour up if u look after them, they have nice characters aswell,
this one we got drifts about side ways and up and down and at a angle like a snake.

Re: Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
apistos shouldn't be mixed unless you have enough space in your tank for them to set up boundries

Re: Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
yeh of the same species but i dont really see the point they don't offer much, i had a agassizi double red male with about 5 females the male took over the bottom of the tank and all the female spread out in differant hiding places they where small and boring just wanted rid sold the lot a fiver.

Re: Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
Apisto females tend to all look very similar yellow with black lines/spots even male apistos cant tell them apart, we had a panda that wanted to breed with the agassizi females but they kept rejecting him, it stressed him out trying and died

Re: Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
So now that we have 2 pairs of apistogramma in the 200L and our newest cacatoides are slightly smaller and getting boyo'd around the tank by a pretty robust aggressive, wanting to breed hongsloi male,
I have decided to move things around abit and set up another breeding tank that this pair of honslois will like,
ill move them into a decent size tank with decor to her liking she wont resist this time and hopfully in the next few weeks ill be making textbook documentry on the upbringing and parental skills of apistogramma hongsloi..........
.........watch this space..........

Re: Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
Good news. Is it possible to put different types of apistos in one tank or do they become territorial.
Re: Apisto Hongsloi Breeding
u can if its big enough but they do tend to fight over space especially if they are breeding...we had 3 different types in the 4ft 5f-1m agasizzi, pair of cockatoos and 1m panda...the female agasizzi took over the whole tank the panda male stressed out n died n the cockatoos ended up in 1 corner, its best to stick to 1 type tbh or possibly just 2 in a fair sized tank
