day 1 of breeding siamese...
decided to keep a log of my attempt.
today i introduced my original cream & red female in a floating tank, into the breeding tank where red male has built a bubble nest.
she has a protuding white spot under belly and seems rounded but still a touch on the small side for my liking.
he is flaring well at her and she seems to have some interest in him.
will watch and wait.

Gave them 15 mins one on one time. Lots of chasing but no real action. Temp 26degrees (good luck lorna!)
Have put female back in floater. She is looking for way out.
Absence makes the heart grow stronger.

well the silly boy chased her right thru the middle of his bubble nest and they destroyed it!
guess hes got some work to do to fix it lol

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
Update on day 3
Last night was a bit scary. He was very agressive and he ate a good size chunk of her tail. However just before that she had followed him under the nest and they started to 'dance'
I thought his luck was in but she must have had 2nd thoughts and dashed away after about 20secs. He was then naturally very frustrated and chased her and got he tail.
Gonna try again tonight. I am leaving them longer each time but there is still too much agression to leave her in there without hovering over. At least the fact she started to mate shows she is def ready. It was very hard to tell due to her not getting the stripes due to her colouring.
Will give it another go tonight. She has been in the floater with him all day while I've been at work. Hope he's not too worked up!

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
Oh she wasn't that bothered. Once back in floater gave her some flake food and she can't have been too stressed as she hoovered up the lot!
It's hard not to be overprotective tho. Saying that they were together in the community tank for a while so at least she knows him. If it doesn't work will leave it till my other females are bigger.

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
It is really hard not to overprotect I have moved my new female into the bigger tank with the females in the hope that she will be better off there after thinking I had lost her. Haven't moved my other female out of the breeder trap yet as I fell over and my ankle is all swollen and painful at the moment so sat with my leg up which make's it a bit difficult lol

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
day 4
Well am now well confused!
Got home from work & no female in floater. Kids& grandad say been empty all day
She jumped out. Her fins are shredded. She can still swim. No eggs i can see & he still chasing at her. I put her back in floater but should I have left her? She has hiding places but he chases when she comes out to breath.
What u all think???

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
Not surprised you are confused I personally would put her in a different tank to give her chance to heel the poor little thing but she could also heel just as well in the floater tank as she will be on her own but you should put some meth blue in to give her a good chance.

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
well she must have been ready if she jumped out of the floater and did the deed! will leave her a few hours to recover and pop her in main tank later.
shame i missed it and really hope i havent harmed them when i lifted the lid to fish her out. she was hiding in the corner. such a clever girl tho lol!
Lorna...i promise you the pick of any surviving fish (fingers crossed) for all your help and support. now comes the hard part.

Re: day 1 of breeding siamese...
i am pleased as punch. crazy isnt it lol
she is gonna have blood worm for her tea tonight for sure lol
everyones been really great on here. didnt expect it to happen this quick. even if the eggs dont survive this time round its given me confidence for next time. i have learnt to leave them to it and they will do what nuture intends without an overprotective mummy hovering in the background.
