Green & Brown Algae
Hi All
Anybody have any suggestions as to why after just a few days of cleaning it, my tanks starts getting green algae on the glass and brown algae on the plants and ornaments?
I am forever cleaning it. I have even started leaving the lghts off till mid afternoon, but it hasn't helped.
Thanks for any help/ideas you may have

How many hours a day are the lights on? how high are the nitrates? And how often do you carry out water changes?

Hi
Lights are on about 7-8 hours a day, nitrates are 5 water changes are done weekly 10-15%
I do have a couple of small BN in there but being so small they tend to stay behind the filter away from the parrots I think.

It might be worth doing a slightly bigger water change

The water isn't green its clear as anything, just the glass, and when I scrub it off its just like a powder not hair....does that mean anything?

Is the tank close to a window?

Re: Green & Brown Algae
Id up the water changes to around 40-50% for a couple of months and that should help. Some algae is stubborn though and needs to be fully erradicated or it will persist. Try scrubbing your glass clean and removing afftected bogwood/stones/ornaments and soakingin boiling water. If its on plants just try to remove the effected leaves/plants.
Also try limiting the lights to about 5 ours a day or less if you can, although the tank doesn't get direct sunlight the lights will still only benefit the algae growth. Let us know how you get on.
