betta fry prob..
it seems one of my betta fry has a mis-shaped back. is this common? why? none of others seem affected in this way.
what should i do with it? i know i should probly cull it but want other opinions first,
should i wait a while to see how it develops?
the others are coming on great and seem to have hit another growth spurt. can see some real fins now rather than just stubbs.

Oh I don't want to cull poor little mite!
Just what all the google answers are telling me.
as long as its not a damaged male, in which case it will cause me housing probs. will watch & wait
After all this work last thing I want is to cull a single one of my tiny batch! Am down to 6 button idea where the others went!! Maybe eaten is all I can think of? Cannibal Betta what next!

Glad you still have some of your little wrigglers after everything you went through over the last few months, I would just wait and see what happens personally

Re: betta fry prob..
cull it its no good to anyone and its eating and passing waste in to the tank you dont need you will only have to get rid of it later
Re: betta fry prob..
ahhhh! thatsd what i was expecting to hear!
i only have half a dozen. surely it cant produce enough waste to hurt the other 5? it doesnt eat much right now!
yes i am a softie...but what do i do with it if it turns out to be too deformed to rehome? or swim properly?
if i leave it too much longer i will be attached to it (yes am a sappy sod but thats me!)
do i do it now before i get attached or give it a chance and have more heartache later...
need more opinions....answers on a postcard...or post please with your thoughts...
good grief fish keeping is supposed to be relaxing!

To be honest debs it's not a case of rehoming it, the poor deformed thing just needs culling as its not going to be any good hit breeding from and therefore just a heartache waiting to happen if it develops other problems later on

Re: betta fry prob..
Culled the poor mite today.
Had it in little cup to have a good look and from above it was proper zigzag shape.
Feel rotten but guess it had to be done.
5 left now but they look like Siamese now and seem to be getting fair bit if fin

It's a shame but you where better off doing it now rather than later when you would be more attached but at least on the positive side the rest are doing really well, you don't realise how attached you get to them.

Re: betta fry prob..
Hi debnel,l had the same thing with some angels with short gill plates, i always give them a chance, some do catch up and are fine, but sad to say a lot of them didn't make the grade, and i had to cull them. Its hard to put a time scale to how long you go on with them, i had some outstanding platinium blues but in the end it had to be done, still makes ya feel a bit sad as you have watched them grow from an egg to young fish.

Re: betta fry prob..
I think they must be 8 weeks now. Starting to show a hint of red in fins but no body colour yet. They so cute! Readily eating flake now tho still supplementing twice a day with other foods.
Gonna move them up to more space soon. Some seem to have more fun than others. Maybe showing first sign if gender??
