Tank.. Empty Tank..

Post by FrazzleDazzle 30/10/2011, 15:54

I've just noticed my filter had seized up and all my fish are at the top gasping for air. I've had nothing but problems with it, i have to give it a rinse every couple of days to keep the flow at pull pelt and now today a tiny little trickle was coming out even though i washed it last night. Lost a couple of guppies! Not impressed, it's some little eheim thing. Might have to invest.

If i was you i would invest in a new filter. I have the same problem with my filter. I clean the sponges every 2 weeks due to low flow. Once the sponges are cleaned it works perfect. Then in a couple of days the flow reduces again and mines a fluval.
I now have an undergravel filter in the tank plus the fluval.

have you cleaned where the impeller sits as it accumulates so much gunk there. i have a fluval 3plus in my bn breeding tank and i have to fully clean it at every water change.

as for the fish you have gasping do you have an airpump running to keep the water oxygenated?

No cause the filters normally giving it what for and the flow from that is more than enough. I've got the air pump running now though, on top of two filters.

Well tonight i come in, the filters not working properly again. It's only gone and sucked my two favourite male guppies in and chopped them in half. I am furious!!!!!!!

What a crock of sh*t, i'm getting my old filter out of the cupboard.

It's the one up from this i think...

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/fish/filters_pumps/eheim_filters/internal_filters/103033

I'm not happy at all, i'm considering contacting the manufacturer. It's a shoddy design, hard to get off the glass and when you do get it off the thing falls apart in your hand, hard to get back together, poor materials and as found out it can suck full grown guppies in and chop them up. Annoyed!

that is for a 45ltr 15 gallon tank it says for breeding tank so shouldnt be that strong i have a eheim internal in my oscar tank 5ft and it can fire bubbles from one end to the other but i had it in my community tank it never sucked any fish into it
and it is the most powerful internal filter ive had hence me having it in the oscar tank

Aye i couldn't find mine, mines the filter that's up from that one. The next step i guess it's for 80-100 litre tanks. I just think this filter is a bit rubbish. I got it with the tank but it hasn't done me any favours. Not picking up anything, waters murky, it's going in the bin.

No but that is a great idea. Underneath there's a hole probably about 1.5cm across which is where the two guppies got sucked up...could put some netting/tights over there i suppose. Cheers.
