Plant tips
Hi All
Does anyone have any tips on keeping plants Probably should have asked before I set it up. Keeping plants always seems a bit hit and miss.
My set up is a 45 gallon tank with sand on the bottom I have no idea what plants are I have attached a pic. Where is the best place to buy plants I got these of ebay for 15 pounds delivered. Peter Barrats are 10 pound for 3 plants seems expensive.
Well I was going to post a pic but the site wont let me

Re: Plant tips
Texpis you wanted to know how to keep plants alive, well i'm currently using a co2 system in 2 of my tanks and they are thriving. I only have gravel in the tanks but the plants are throwing out roots like there's no tomorrow. The co2 has only been up and running for round about 2 weeks and the growth is noticeable.

Hi Mrsbiffster
What does a CO2 system involve? Is it not detrimental to the fish?

Re: Plant tips
No, i have an homemade co2 in with me goldfish and one of them hang around the wooden airstone. With the loss of fish i had a couple of days ago i started doubting the co2 thinking it was that that caused the loss, but the new fish i bought don't seem to be bothered by it.
There is a thread on the forum about co2 and it's so easy to set one up. All i say is buy plenty of yeast (the bread making kind) and sugar and away you go.

This will give you a idea I think the biffster has one though. Depending on your tank size you may need two 2 litre bottles im setting up one next week. Two 2 litre bottles, 2 cups of sugar in each and tea spoon if yeast. Air tubing into a bubble counter ( the other bottle you see on that diagram . Then straight into tank with a wooden airstone. How much yeast you use determins how much co2 produced. More co2 the faster the sugar is eatin by it= the shorter time the mixture will last. Have a look on youtube loadddds of videos.

Re: Plant tips
You simply put holes in the bottle caps for the air tubing. You can make the hole smaller than tubing and pull it through tightley to make it air tight or use silicone and ive read some people use super glue but have had problems.
Sounds alot to do I know but when you learn it, it is simple!. The biffsters got diy co2 and im sure he has a diagram.
