Corals

Post by Ian on 16/8/2015, 10:34

As I am fairly new to marine keeping I have so far stuck with simple coral life.
My tank currently had approximately 7 mushrooms in, these take no looking after at all, they feed on the nutrients in the water and open up under the lights. They're very low maintenance.
I've had some of these for about six months so I've now introduced a small Zoa colony to see how it goes.
Warning here: unlike the mushrooms the Zoas give off toxins to protect themselves so rubber gloves are best to handle them and then wash hands afterwards. Over protective? Maybe but I do not fancy giving myself problems by rubbing my eyes, going to the loo or eating with toxins on my hands.
Caution costs nothing and this way I continue to enjoy my hobby.

As an after thought I will also add that I keep white vinegar in the house just in case I need to try and neutralise and stings (think jelly fish folks)
