problem fish
ok probably first of very many posts here hahaha!
and so the story goes......
I had angel fish, and bought some black eyed lemon ancistrus bristlenose. they seemed to settle in well. A couple of weeks later (10 days ago) i bought some fish from a fish shop. 2 sword tales and 4 mollys. hmm big mistake. Within 24 hours 1 died(molly). Up to today all my bristlenoses(3 of) have died. all bought fish from petshop except 1 sword tale have died. 3 of my 4 angels have died. Tbh im gutted. ive had my angels for years. they were lovely and big and interesting and funny! very comical to watch lol. My last angel looks like its dieing too. Ive had my water tested and it came back perfect no problems. the fish seem to be rottting. fins shrinking with rot. i feel sad looking at my 1 last angel as its on its way . The place that tested my water gave me a liquid stuff to put in tank. Also said fish must of been deseased.
ok 1st question! Is there anything more i can do to try and hold onto my last angel?
2. if he dies, how do i get rid of any infection/desease/badness out of tank, best and most effective way.
3. if he lives, how do i make the tank a nice and clean and desease free place and how long before i can add more fish?
thanks in advance for any help! any advice appriciated

Re: problem fish
Most of fish diseases can be kept at bay with good husbandry (water changes and maintenance) . How often are you doing water changes?
I honestly think you have introduced a few nasty into your tank with the new fish you added. What fish are left now and in what condition are they.
I'm sorry you have had this happen bit with a little more info I'm sure we can help.
Also id recommend the purchase of a test kit so you can test it yourself to be sure.

Re: problem fish
it sounds like fin rot fish can get it by chasing round the tank etc catching there fins as they go like scraping your knees then it gets infected seen as its the only fish left you should be able to teat with protozin or octazin should clear up it mat take a while for the fins to grow back but they normally grow back in about a mounth or so do you have a small tank to put it in while treating it then you dont have to use a lot in a big tank
Re: problem fish
i agree with both ways of treating fin rot if there was any way you could post a photo of the fish that is been treated

Re: problem fish
I'd recommend using waterlife myxazin. It treats a wide range of external bacterial problems such as fin rot. This is the product I use:
http://www.waterlife.co.uk/seaquariums/myxazin.htm
It's available at most shops. Hope it all goes well.

Re: problem fish
if you bought your fish from billingham shop why after the first die did you not go back and question the staff about your problem i know that they would have done test on your water and also replaced the fish you lost? they have a policy fish die within 48 hours and your water is ok you would get your fish replaced
i got fish from there and had no problems with any other fish thats in my tank and i have very expensive plecs in mine and not your average plecs?

Re: problem fish
It sounds like RO and tank water syndrome. The fish you bought from the shop are kept in RO water and when you brought them home you introduced them into your tank water. Many pet shops keep fish in RO water which is pure. Not many fishkeepers have an RO unit, only the serious fishkeepers that show there fish. When you introduce you fish into your tank, even though you do it to the rule (put bag in the tank, leave till temp equals, gradually let in small amounts of water). Fish could get ph shock or chemical shock and the fish get all sorts of problems, even sudden death.
I'm not a clever bugger, but i hope it makes sense.

Re: problem fish
If the infection in the fins has gone then up the frequency of water changes and they will return to normal.
Don't be put off though lucy, along as you check the shops tanks are healthy before you buy that's all you can do. Just remember to gradually build your stock of fish back up.
