It's in a four footer? I just don't agree with keeping these fish unless you can home it properly.

i agree with Kev on this one they were originally
brought in to the UK as a food fish and some how
made it in to the hobby they can grow over 6 foot
a mate of mine had one at over 5 and a half foot
and he had to re home it to a public aquarium

its 4inch at mo so a 4 footer is perfectly suitable when it gets bigger it gets rehomed i dont see a problem here yet you 2 are looking for 1 ???.

i just dont think they should be in the hobby
they can cause so many problems when they
get older they also grow very quick three
month and it will be to big for a four foot
tank

Ok as ive said im no stranger to big catfish to be honest mr biffster you are agreeing with a guy(kevjames) that did,nt even know what an RTC was.

Now i joined this forum to hopefully learn a thing or 2 and maybe make a few friends along the way not get slated becouse i have a 4inch RTC in a 4 foot tank.

My intentions are to get keep this fish as healthy as possible for as long as possible then rehome if i have to.

I also have a 4.5 inch RTS *red tail shark* in a 4 footer you wanna slate me over that aswell.

you will just have to keep an eye on it as they are preditors but not all preditors are bad they can live in the aqurium peacefully as long as its feed properly but if it gets hungry it wont think twice about takeing its tank mates as food but its best keeped with fish of the same size or bigger

I knew fine well what you meant but was just checking because you only have a 4 foot tank. Its just my opinion but why buy this fish for the sake of having it a few months. With the right care this fish will be too big in less than 6 months. The percentage of fish keepers who can home this fish for life is so small I think passing on the responsibility of homing this fish when your done with it is irresponsible. Even the person who sold it to you is in the wrong In my eyes.

Well in my opinion if you are going to keep fish this size i would invest in a bigger tank.

I m selling the cat and am now on the look out for a 5-6 foot tank so i can attempt to breed Chichilids.

My budget is shit so am only after a tank no stand or lights needed.

if anyone has any ideas where id get 1 for cheap let me know thanks.

I'm arriving late on the subject but I've done the large fish thing (not a huge fish like a RTC) and I don't think it's fair. In my early teens I kept and Oscar in a two footer and I look back now and think how unfair it was.

Last year I handed over to be re-homed (as I was moving) a Synodontis Nigrita which I'd had since 1991 as it wouldn't be fair to put is into my 40 litre tank even temporarily. Even in my my Jewel 4 footer I didn't think it had enough space to roam.

My plans for the tank now are small fish and plenty of swimming room.

Most of my tanks are 30 inches so i'm not getting big fish. I would love to keep Uarus but bigger tank needed for them.
