note to self :-
when trying to set external filters up and you get the water running up the uplift but still don't have everything as it should be, DO NOT simply disconnect the filter and trust that the taps will do their job: they may LOOK like they're closed, there may not APPEAR to be any water running through them, but DO NOT be stupid enough to believe that this is in fact the case! lol
i was messing about till midnight setting my external up and not quite satisfied with the results so i decided to try again later but, as it had a slight leak (i had the seal wrong) i decided to remove it to stop water flow. dozy pillock that I am I never drained the pipework down, instead of which I simply turned the taps off and went to bed.
when i crawled out of my pit this morning the wife (tolerant type that she is) moaned about the noise coming from the internal filter which I had obviously left running. as this is usualy a quiet running thing (eheim 2012) I poked my head in the living room to check it out.
noisy as hell in there. no bloody wonder! in my absence the uplift for the external had managed to syphon away approx 35 litres of water! this in turn had run down under the floorboards so there was no apparent sign anywhere in the room (filter and pipe ends are in the meter cupboard under the tank)
talk about having an enforced water change!!!
LESSON LEARNED :- NEVER AGAIN TRUST ANYTHING 100% UNTIL I'M SURE! lmfao
panic over now and the water change won't need doing with the others tomorrow!!!

any awards for comedy moment of the month lads???
