Re: auction in croft 22ND APRIL 2012
well just had the news today from Laura
the auction IS going ahead as planned but she has just been charged £120 for a pet shop licence to operate the auction by darlington borough council
this licence will last for a year and is a premises licence so Laura will be organising more auctions using the same venue throughout the year in order to get her money's worth.
Laura has advertised this auction as free entry and is going to honour this statement but will obviously have to charge an entry fee for any future auctions. I can find no problems with either of those things and will be suggesting to her that she puts a bucket at the door for people to throw loose change into as a donation on a voluntary basis.
However the way to avoid the pet shop licence fee is to make every person attending auctions a member of the society and charge a membership fee of £1 as they enter the building, again due to the short notice given by the council after they found out about the auction, Laura has decided that this is not fair to people planning to attend on sunday, but will be prepared to consider it for future auctions.
The only good to come out of this is that at least we are guaranteed that there will be another auction in out area this year.
please, if possible could members who are free attend these auctions in order that the auction circuit survives throughout the north east.
