Re: algae bloom
I had to strip my tank down and scrub everything in it, had to throw most my plants out and replace filter media. All depends how bad it is and what sort it is.

green water, i have a couple of plecs in there, howver once this is done i require some more femails bristle
Re: algae bloom
Ple s won't stop green water. It is normally caused by an ammonia spike and sunlight shining directly on the tank. To stop it you need to stop all light getting to the tank as changing water won't solve this one I'm afraid. The best way to solve it is to do a large water change then wrap the tank in a duvet or sheet that stops light entering for about 48 hours. Then do another large water change. Alternatively a uv filter will kill of the waterborne nastys that cause this.

Re: algae bloom
I used to get it every year around this time in my old tank when it was in a different place in my living room. It was like a pea soup and you couldn't even see the back of the tank. Don't worry about the fish as mine seemed to thrive In it. How long do u leave your tank lights on for each day?

Re: algae bloom
leave the lights off for a few days, it wont do your fish no harm and might help the problem. why dont you put a pic up so we can see how bad it is.

Re: algae bloom
No photo im afraid as phone is broken.
however, looking much better as algae gone put in the tank also blacked the tank out for a day and the light has been off for 3 days.

Re: algae bloom
That should hopefully do it then. Don't despair if it comes back again though because when I had problems it was random in its "attacks". Glad it seems to be shifting for you.
