Re: Moving Discus
Never heard of a powder test. Normally they are liquid or strips. Either way it shouldn't be.coming up with zero.
Id change more water for two reasons:
- the ph will lower over time when doing small changes. Meaning that if a large water change is needed the ph will change too much and may cause a ph shock.
- they are lots of essential minerals in water that care slowly depleted by the fish. With larger water changes comes q constant supply of these for the fish. Discus are a fish that benefit greatly from these. They are also growth inhibiting hormones produced by the fish and diluting both them and the nitrates is the only way to remove them.

Re: Moving Discus
Just let nature take its course as you can't really bring them up in a community setup. As for the nitrates, that is quite high. Just increase the frequency of water changes till its in check then try to work out how long between water changes to keep the nitrates as low as possible. For example I change 50% on my display tank every 5 days and my nitrates are between 10 and 20.

Re: Moving Discus
Wait till they start to attach to the parents. They should start to produce an extra slime coat that the fry feed from soon.
With a pair like this of mixed strains the young won't be like the parents, they will probably be very heavily peppered.

they are definately not easy but not as hard as people think. aslong as you keep the water spot on and get good quality fish to start with they are very much like other tropicals.
