if your filter sponge isnt doing what its surposed to like catch the finer particals try this get a new paint roller the fluffy ones you can get 3 for a £1 in the cheap shops cut it to the same length as the sponge thats in your filter and replace the sponge one it will have to mature a couple of days but it will clear a cloudy tank
