Post by Moza 8/2/2012, 10:20

Does anyone have a guide to what tubes do what ???? Ive got a Juwel set up using T5s on is a day bulb the other a nature. It seems very bright and white in the tank and does nothing for the colours of my Malawi's. I had a grolux in there which just made the tank look pink, I have coral sand and ocean rock aswell which makes the tank look ver pale. Can anyone suggest a better tube combo ????

I read an article that said blue light over 10000k is best to bring out Malawi colours because of this I run two 14000k t8's and they seem to work great. Hope this helps.

Also depends on depth and angle of light also. In my deep discus tank the colours don't show as well near the bottom.

I've still got the empty box for them in my garage so ill take a look for you. I'm sure they are meant for marine but they don't say marine blue on them. I bought them from PetMania, they were the only ones they had that were 14000k.

Did you get any today? I've just had a look at the box in the garage and the one I have are GLO Aqua-Glo T8 18000k. I think the higher the K the whiter and brighter. No good for plants but perfect for marine and cichlids presumably.

Not sure it might do, might be a model number to match them up.

Just been for my Over Tank Luminaire (T5 54w) which I'm going to order new tropical tubes for, therefore I'll take a look at that, thanks blooper.

In the Unit I got, 3 of the tubes are full of life, only prob for me is it came off a marine tank, therefore if someone wants the two marine blue and one marine white tube, please PM me with a offer (will sell individually).

I think that looks great! Will defo bring the colour out more with the marine bulbs you have ordered though. You'll have to get a pic up once you have then installed.
