It's at a steady 80F. I bought the rocks from strikes and Peter barratts. It's just slate from the garden section.

They didn't sell it per pound, it was about £10 for three rocks regardless of the size. Some are huge and some are small. Can imagine its allot less than £9 a pound.

Re: New African Cichlid Tank
I tried to get a brick chistle through it and it was as hard as nails! Should manage with a good sharp chistle though. Peter barratts didn't have much left when I was there but strikes had loads.

You have to patient young man. You could have high nitrite for a while before it drops.

More pics will defo follow! The rest of the cichlids I bought are relatively young so still not coloured up yet though. Ive got around 11 Saulosi, 10ish lions cove labs, about 8 neon spots, 2 synodontis, 2 bristlenose and the male and female korneliae.

Re: New African Cichlid Tank
Cheers mate, I've just taken the largest rocks out this morn to give a bit more swimming space. Think I prefer it.

Re: New African Cichlid Tank
Cheers mate, have quite a bit less slate in there now for more space and I've just put a small piece of bog wood in for the bristlenose's.
Can't wait to see them colour up as they get bigger. Having a real problem with nitrate though, seems like no matter how much water I change its still in there!

Re: New African Cichlid Tank
My nitrate is fine its the nitrite im having an issue with, I dropped nearly all the water the other day and its still high. I've even tried nitrite remover and I know its still their as the tiger barbs are nose down. Do I need bogwood for bristlenose.

Re: New African Cichlid Tank
bogwood or curio i reckon mate, i have a couple of pieces of curio wood in and the bristlenoses seem to love it the wood helps there digestion i think?
