ANCISTRUS L144 LEMON BRISTLENOSE

Just found that alot of fish sold as the L144 is not actually the true L144 and doesn't have a L Number.

The true L144 is a golden colour, heres a pic:


As the type that gets sold as the l144 lemon blue/black eyed is more of a yellow colour looking like a albino without the red eyes. This is most likley to be Ancistrus species (4) pic:


Here is what was Sold to us as a Long Fin L144 what turns out to be a colour morph of Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus (Brown Bn). these are a lot paler in colour than the previous 2.


As you can see these r totally differant fish as people look to proffit from the L144, i would like to know if there are any true ones out there as they are stated rare and what the price differance would be?

Max Size: 3.9"

Discription: Shiney gold colouration with clear fins. Blue/Black eyes, Male has bushy bristles, Female can also develop soft bushy nose which is unique to the ancistrus genus.

General Remarks L144 is rare. The fish sold as L144 is a different form, most likely based on Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus. This form resembling L144 can be found under as Ancistrus sp(4). The offspring of the only known import of this fish was line-bred to "fix" the colour form. All true L144 specimens are offspring from this single male.

Slightly off topic but I really think the longfin morph is horrendous. Each to their own but I think they are equally as bad for the hobby as balloon rams for example.

We got a few of the long fins i quite like them alough they seem smaller and lighter coloured. we're going to pair with the normal lemons so there's no interbreeding don't know what they'll come out like though. I don't mind the balloon rams either but id rather not have balloon. each to there own

longfins to me just arent as nice looking as the normal bns. as for balloon rams, they are bred to be more unhealthy and even less hardy than the normal gbrs.

Nah just browns, everything slowing down breeding wise for now busy at home with other things. That's unless I manage to get the trio of l183s I've just inquired about lol.
