Air locking in my external filter
I am getting concerned about my aqua one external filter it seems to be constantly air locking
So far the only sure fire way I have found to counteract this is to lay the filter on its side as this way the impeller is constantly running in water
Does any one have any better ideas as to how to combat this problem?

Is they an airline pumping near the intake of the filter. My fx5 was pulling in air this way till I moved the line.

Re: Air locking in my external filter
have you tried opening the vent tap on the top that should let the air & water when theres just water shut it
Re: Air locking in my external filter
Make sure skimmers in water thus water constantly feeding into the pipes. Also make sure pipes are only as long as needed therefore not too many bends etc.
Re: Air locking in my external filter
I read somewhere that pipes had to be the same length,is this incorrect

Re: Air locking in my external filter
i left my pipes the same length as they came but i did have a problem with it airlocking once. i just primed it and made sure the skimmer was into the water and its been fine since.
i think it would work better with the shorter pipes only thing is if you wanna sell it on or use it again you may need new pipes.

Re: Air locking in my external filter
make sure were the pipes fit to the taps are tight as they can suck in air from there also use a bit of vaseline or silicone grease for the seal were the motorhead fastens to the bottom of the filter as this can also suck in air
