Re: A list of my malawis so far
there were a pair of breeders the female didnt make it i think it got caught in the corner of the bag at some point it was still alive but didnt make it through the night but theres still the young ones and they will grow up
Re: A list of my malawis so far
i have a breeding pair of yellow labs just waiting to drop her young shes got a bunch of gob stoppers in it by the looks
Auction
Mine were the large pombo rocks which I got from Dave at Nottingham about 18 months ago.
You also got some young mpanga blues which were bred by me. The parents were from Nottingham,
but from a breeder called Carl or Midlandsmalawis. both these guys advertise on AC.
I very rarely buy fish at an auction, because I like to know where they come from and I only took mine to the auction because my female front just spat this weekend and I also need room for my group of petricola.

Yes the Kakusa were mine and came from Nottingham. I had them from young for 18 months and they never bred for me, so am assuming that they were 2 males.
Could well be that a change of tank might prove me wrong.

Re: A list of my malawis so far
how long to malawis generally hold their eggs and fry before realeasing them ?
Re: A list of my malawis so far
frontosa, 28 days. others 21 days. I put them in a tank on their own before that.

Re: A list of my malawis so far
ive got a few holding eggs and one looks like shes got young in her mouth at the moment as her mouth has got bigger but catching her in this tank shes in definatly wont be easy it could meen removing all the rock work and even then we have about 12 of the same speices so its catching the right one
Re: A list of my malawis so far
If you let her spit in the tank. you have a good chance of loosing all the young.
I allways have a spare tank to put the female in.
I let the frontosa spit, but all my other malawis are put into a holding tank

Re: A list of my malawis so far
thats what ill have to do i think when i get the fish house up and running that wont be a problem anymore
Re: A list of my malawis so far
Another option I use, I have four tanks with breeding groups of various bristlenose and I let the Malawis spit in there. So the bristlenose are breeding and the malawi fry are to small to harm the young bristlenose.
I have had some young Malawis in one tank for over 3 months now and the BN have bred a few times without any trouble.

Re: A list of my malawis so far
my alunocara chilumba blues have just given birth to 12 new fry after i had to half empty the rocks out of the tank to catch her so the young would be safe for her to realese
