Siamese Fighters Advice Empty Siamese Fighters Advice

Post by Siamese fighter 5/7/2012, 18:21

Hi guy's just wondered if anyone has any advice for me on keeping fighters as I have managed to keep them previously but have been thinking of getting back into it and just wondered if anyone had any useful information on breeding and keeping etc as there is only so much you can read on the internet and I find it's better getting info off people who have kept them previously, thanks to everyone for reading the post and any advice they can give

I had trouble breeding fighters for years until a mate visited my fish house and listened to my tale of woe.
The next day he returned with a tank he had made with three compartments and gave me this advice.
Place a conditioned female in the centre compartment and a male in each side compartment.
Add a few floating plants, the males will display to her and each other and she will chose a male and start building a bubble nest, put the male in with the female, put the other male back in your conditioning tank job done. The male will tend the fry after spawning. I was able to raise loads of fighters this way.
Good luck!

Glad to help, another thing I should have mentioned is to keep a tight fitting lid on the tanks, as you know they gulp air, but it needs to be warm and very humid. Cold air is not good for them. I'm sure it won't be long before you have fry.

my first ever batch were lost as my siamese were in my community tank when they decided they were gonna do the deed. i was fairly new to siamese breeding and didnt really have any choice by that point as the nest was well underway. But in order to feed the community takn fish i had to raise the tank lid. lost the lot of them Sad well i guess it would have happened anyway in a community tank but still..i was gutted!

I have managed to breed them once previously but they didn't survive for very long but i didn't think that was bad from not knowing anything about them lol

yes i saw those online and & i think its horrible what they have done to the poor things. they can barely swim!
they look good true but any true fish lover would feel for the poor things having to work twice as hard to get around just so someone can have something a little more 'exotic' i doubt they would survive in anything but a small tank and certainly couldnt be kept with other fish. even a standard siamese female would be too much for it to keep up with. (my twopenneth!)
cant help feeling its just cruel.

Some good advice on here, I was hoping to try breeding some myself as I have never bred them in the past and only ever owned one fighter. Some of the strains are really nice. Where do you all buy yours from?

All the fighters we have bought (only 3) have all been from auction only paid about £1.50 each for them.

Cool cheers, you breed them or just keep them to look at? Also do you know when the next auction is?
